We were woken today by gentle music after a fairly bouncy night where Gabrielle didn't sleep much. The ship docked at 7am and we awaited disembarkation before heading out on the road towards Estoril at around 7.30am. Glorious sunrise and, after a bit of initial confusion, we found ourselves on the main road south.
The drive was eight hours long and during it we saw little in the way of traffic. The roads were so empty that one could bowl along merrily without thinking too hard. We stopped for a sandwich and coffee after the first two hours - our second breakfast - and then again around two hours later for lunch.
The last part down towards Lisbon and Estoril became increasingly fast and busy, with motorists keen to get home. However, we prevailed and arrived at the intercontinental Hotel in Estoril about an hour before sunset. I now have a new favourite hotel! What a lovely place - right on the sea shore, with views of the Atlantic breakers rolliong onto the beach. Our room looked out onto this view and we made the most of the facilities, for we are to be here only for one night. Tomorrow morning sees us drive the last two and a half hours down to Praia da Luz.

Just to add to this post, we experienced temperatures from 5 degrees to 20 degrees. Driving through the mountainous ranges of Spain were pretty high and therefore cold with a good smattering of snow on the higher peaks. Naturally as we started to come down to sea level and Luz, the temperature rocketed to a very acceptable 20 degrees.
