Coming to the end ...

It's been a dream but, like all good things, this jaunt in Praia da Luz must come to an end. On Friday we shall head off for the long drive back, taking a week and visiting places and friends on the way.

Our itinerary, for those who are interested, will be:

  • Friday - to Andujar in Spain
  • Saturday - to San Carles de la Rapita
  • Sunday - to Carcassonne where we shall stay two nights
  • Tuesday - to Le Grand Coudrais, near Montmarault in France to visit Judith and John Pugh
  • After two nights, on Thursday - to Compiègne
  • Friday - to Calais and across the Channel by Eurotunnel, ending up in Dover for the night
  • Saturday - drive home!
And so it will be another adventure - a holiday after what has not actually been a holiday, but more of a working change. We've worked hard since the New Year, covering a lot of activity. Gabrielle has conducted numerous telephone interviews, using the VoIP phone - perfectly satisfactory and no more expensive than a call at home.

We've held meetings by FaceTime where we have been involved on a screen back at the office and we have continued just as normal, with normal working days, but all in a beautiful setting with much better weather than has been the case in the UK.

In this, our last week, the weather has decided to make up for its good behaviour and has been throwing a tantrum for the past few days. Sudden rainstorms and high winds are all making things a bit chillier than before. We had expected January to be poor and February to improve, but it was the other way around.

We shall be very sorry to leave Luz. It's a great place and we have enquiries in for doing this again at the end of the year. It's allowed us to stop and think - to get off the carousel for a while, as Gabrielle put it. That has been great and we shall return home with happy memories and possibly some changes to our ways of thinking.

And, good God, we shall miss the prawns!
